Information and Education - #LaserFX on IRC

Wednesday night from 23:30 Eastern [20:30 Pacific - 04:30 GMT] onward, LaserFX.com sponsors an IRC chat session for laserists.  These chats range from informal conversations to invited industry experts who discuss specific topics of interest to laserists.

Laser IRC logo

IRC is Internet Relay Chat, a system that allows people to "talk" through a text interface that runs as a background task on the Internet.  For those not familiar with IRC, one types a message on the screen of one's IRC client, hits return and the server then sends that message to all who are logged onto the channel. We meet on dal.net (which is smaller and quieter than the other IRC networks) and our channel is #LaserFX.

Our chats attract a wide range of laserists from newbies, to hobbyists, to experimenters, to laser show fans, to top professionals and experts in the field of laser displays. We have participants from Canada, Australia, Maylasia, New Zealand, Slovenia, Spain, Russia, and the USA. We meet to chat informally about laser shows and to swap tips and tales.
All laserists, laser hobbyists and laser show fans are welcome to join in our weekly laser chat sessions. Our home server is "raptor.ab.ca.dal.net", port 7000, channel #LaserFX.

Laserists on IRC - If you are not familiar with IRC or do not have an IRC chat client [software], here is information on IRC, the conventions we use on our channel, and links to IRC chat software.

mIRC instructions - We recommend mIRC as the best chat client for laserists. Full details and installation information can be found at http://www.mirc.co.uk

#LaserFX Channel Regulars

IRC Regulars Section -    Each person on IRC uses a 'nick' or nickname. Since it's nice to put a face to the [nick], there is a page listing some of the regular participants who have supplied information and who are regulars on the #LaserFX channel [along with their real names and company affiliations].
